Posted on 01/18/2018

Congratulations to Mrs. Seker (Writing Content Specialist and Academic Support Teacher) for being named the ARIS Educational Services Professional of the year for 2018.  Mrs. Seker has worked in the Hillsborough School District since 1993. She has held many positions over the years including grades 3, 5, ASI Writing teacher, and ARIS Writing Content Specialist.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art history from Manhattanville College, Mrs. Seker worked for The New York Philharmonic in their Development office.  In this position, she wrote letters to patrons to raise money for their Individual Giving campaign. Mrs. Seker then went on to earn a Master’s degree in both K-6 Education, as well as Museum Education from the Bank Street Graduate School of Education, in New York.  Her museum teaching experience includes work at the Hudson River Museum, The Brooklyn Historical Society, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of the City of New York.

As our building Writing Specialist, Mrs. Seker works tirelessly to make sure that teachers have an understanding of the curriculum and resources so they can apply that knowledge when teaching their students. Her approach to this position is always collegial, warm and encouraging. She lives a “can do” attitude and shares this feeling with all she comes into contact.  Over the years while working with team teachers, they have shared that Kristen “exudes positivity in everything she does.”  She is known as an expert at modifying lessons to make them more practical and achievable for struggling learners.  Mrs. Seker is a great communicator and liaison balancing the unique role of teacher and content specialist.

Among the many notable achievements and projects that Mrs. Seker has been involved (and currently works on), includes:

  •  Teacher Consultant for the National Writing Project (NWP) - Rutgers University
  • Works as a teacher consultant with the Zimmerli Art Museum (in partnership with Rutgers University) and designs lessons for teachers/schools groups that focus on how to further develop critical thinking and reasoning through the elements of visual art.

  • Recently nominated to attend the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teachers and Teaching Conference (ECET2NJPA) sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

  • Invited to be a part of Drew University’s chapter of the National Writing Project.

Once again, congratulations to Mrs. Seker for all that you do each and every day for the students and staff at ARIS.  We are so proud to have you represent Auten Road as its Educational Services Professional of the Year for 2018!
