Congratulations Mrs. Patricia Brower - Educational Services Professional of the Year
Posted on 01/24/2017

Mrs. Brower graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in Elementary Education and a Reading Specialist Certification. Upon graduation she taught 6th grade in Madison. As this was the era of school closings, she then entered the business world working in the Information Technology Consulting field.  She held many positions over her 13 years in business, the last being Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Internal Affairs. When the company was sold Mrs. Brower accepted a maternity leave replacement for fourth grade at HES and then went to school at night to get her Masters in Counseling from Rider University. When the district opened Auten Road Elementary School Mrs. Brower was hired as the School Counselor.

Mrs. Brower continued her education at Rider University and earned her Educational Specialists degree in Counseling as well as her Director of Guidance certification. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Associate Counselor and is currently pursuing her Licensed Professional Counselor certification. She has worked in the Hillsborough school district for 18 years and is a resident of Hillsborough for 24 years. All three of her children have gone through our schools and her husband Frank has his dental practice in town.

Mrs. Brower loves working with the age group we have at ARIS. One of her special projects is our Advisory Program where we work together as a school to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. Social learning goes hand in hand with academic learning and student success, so during Friday’s extended homeroom we take time with the children to improve social skills, problem solve and build both the team family and our school community.  Mrs. Brower is also a member of the Crisis Management Team, Character Education Committee and School Wellness Committee.

Mrs. Brower is also an Adjunct Professor in the Counseling Graduate Education Department at Rider University. This is her 12th year teaching and supervising counseling graduate students for the school setting as well as the clinical mental health setting. She also serves on the Rider Education Advisory Board.

Excerpt from a nomination form from an ARIS teacher: “I am fortunate to have worked along Patty for the past eight years. I call her not only my colleague, but my friend. She listens without judgement and she has a strong sense of compassion for all. Her kind-hearted and empathetic demeanor is truly admirable. She has helped me with students countless times, offering advice and support. Patty not only offers us thoughtful solutions, she follows through and follows up.”
